Photoshoot

Today was a brilliant day got to see my hard work pay off with a photo-shoot showing my progression in collection development so far. thing about fashion textiles is you can continually chop and change what your doing and personally i find new inspiration in the randomist places and in things. This shoot gave me a little more reassurance that in FACT i do have a place with in this industry wether it be design, making it even styling i can apply my knowledge to an avenue after i finish in a number of week. SCARY!!!!!
Even though at times many we as a collective course have felt we have all support each other which i an damn sure i am going to miss.

Anyways will post some photos up soon of my creation simple yet affective and the beautiful fair skin natural red head Amelia Thomas

Photos from LFW!!!

Just a quicky to give you guys an insight into London fashion week day1 through a students eyes working for the LG SteamTeam. Behind the scenes that you don't normally get to see much of.

I took this one day as a complete learning experience and with photo-shoots just around the corner at uni starting on Thursday what a better place to see the styling, photography, music, models and designers working as a collective unit.

With a lot of stress, not knowing what I was doing and a bucket load of tears I have successfully finished two garments a little fitted silk panelled dress with attempted matching pattern and a cropped boxy 1/2 sleeve silk pull over/jumper with sublimation printed body and plain sleeves. Plain but simple no room to hide for a self proclaimed perfectionist!! I shall try to upload photos but with hand in a week away I can imagine my time will be a little stretched to breaking point.  I Hope all you other 3rd years out their are enjoying your final weeks and not too stressed.

If anyone has any stress relief tips please pass them this way. Many thanks xx

LONDON FASHION WEEK!!!!

SO about yesterday. It was amazing thoroughly enjoyed it and felt privileged to have the opportunity to work behind the scenes with the LG Steam Team. To many steaming the garments can be a boring job but to me is one of the most important as no one wants their collection they have spent month working on going for the catwalk with creases.

Having done back stage work before for graduate shows at free range I knew it was going to be busy, hot and slightly manic but I love the atmosphere that fashion week brings. Fashion week is great even though its about what designers have brought new to the table for another season and inspiring others its insightful to see what others wear and how they portray their fashion foot step identity. With random combination, different nationalities and challenging the boundaries of fashion.  The wackiest thing I saw was a women wearing a stuffed cat on her head but due to the constant flow of rain was unable to get a snap of it. The shows well there we timed to perfection once started with elegant tall models showing off the garments in all their glory with lighting and music complimenting the completion of another seasons collection.

but LISTEN!!!!

Like in my previous post I would have never got the chance to do this with out keeping my head and fingers in the social media bubble so if I could give any advice enter as many competitions you like as you never know one day you could be in luck and get something you always wished you wanted or could do. So keep Facebook, blogger, Wordpress, Instagram, twitter anything you communicate on close to you and keep you eyes open!!!

I Will post some pictures up soon so watch this blog but if you cant wait for my sometimes slack approach to blogging look me up on twitter and instagram. user id's Below

Pure London a/w 14/15

London yesterday well what can I say....there was clothes, clothes and more clothes, inspiration from every direction and brilliant seminars.

I have been to pure twice before but this one was different as I have previously only gone for the spring/summer shows in august. Autumn/winter to me is all about giving a feminine edge to chunky knits and boyfriend style coats.  I love the endless possibility to layer up garments. Layering in easy and effortless it gives licence to challenge your shape, change proportions and put things together you never thought might go.  when its cold outside there is nothing better then a bit of comfort.

With a brilliant womenswear show high lighting key trends that will be making appearances in the near future from Colour blocking, French edit to floral printed puffa coats there was room for some strong styling. WGSN seminar for trend forecasting strongly explaining that a/w15 has a sports wear feel to it allowing for the build up of tonal colour and winter pastels with soft touch tactile materials to soften hard lines. Opened my eyes to how tuned in the world of fashion is to the people around it and what they want.  What I find the best is the opportunity to talk to people about their work. where it spanned from, who manufactures it and what drives them to give the customer the best product whether it be shoes, clothing or bags.

All in all I could talk about pure for a long time and about the designers and brands I spoke to but then this post would just go on for too long so feel free to leave a comment or question and I will attempt to reply :)

Getting back on the horse

With what felt like a big kick in the teeth sort of day yesterday after having 1:1 about my work with Uni tutor I decided to get back on the horse today and try not let the event of the past which can not be rectified get me in a rut. As any creative knows a rut can be a cruel and time consuming thing.

Being stuck in the way I am as a person I am going to attempt to try and not take things too much to heart as anyone who knows me well enough would just say I am the person who cries ALOT even when situations aren't even as bad as I think.

so when a clearer, leveller head. I begin again :)

Today was final show deciding day with the decision being.............Virtual catwalk show being filmed and played during the private view at Somerset college Taunton.  With this not being done before by the course it allows us all room to do with the models as we want from hair and make up to walking pace and location. That of which as a collective course want to be quirky ,unique, and inspirational to others watching.

so all in all I was pretty happy with the overall result but of course deep down everyone wants the catwalk show with models showing beautifully made and designed clothes to music and beady eyed watchers but hey sometimes we have to roll with the punches.

Outfit today:
Cardy borrowed from my lovely twin yet to be returned. Love the burnt orange colour, Skinny Jeans, Black boots with three brassy/gold buckles each side bargain at £20 from Asda, Shirt sale a while ago in red herring and necklace one of my recent purchases from new look at the silly price of 50p. It was a instant must have!!

butterflies

Butterflies are beautiful creatures. They have vibrant colours, cluster together to look like pattern and have intricate linear wings.

Butterflies are like creativity they have a starting point, grow and flourish.

To gain inspiration for print, manipulation and garments i have looked to fabrics with a spring summer feel. ie....silk habotai, cotton lawn, poly cotton. Images of current designers work for the coming spring summer 2014 and close up of butterflies and dragon flies.

This week so far has been a roller coaster of creativity and emotion so i am hoping the next few days bring something forward that i can work with.

sorry for the boring post but with the weather being the way it is haven't been dressing too fashionable unless gale force make overs are suddenly in.

on the brighter side booked tickets to LONDON yesterday to go on sunday. excited.

Mirrored Image and individuality

The simplicity of a reflection, a mirrored image, what other people see.

That's what I enjoy about fashion. Its a reflection of you as a person projected to other peoples eyes through the way you present yourself.  Some may look at you like your a little weird/crazy but others like wow!! she/he's brave I wish I had the balls to dress like that.

FASHION IS INDIVIDUAL, IT's NOT A UNIFORM.

My thought on the matter is that if we all dressed the same life would be boring and dull with this in turn making us seem like reflections of one another.

Some people are into vintage, high fashion, high street, hand me downs. what ever you are into just own it as the comments you get in return could be the recognition you've been searching for.

Last weekend I got to show my individuality on a night out. I wouldn't say I have a style i just wear what I find comfortable or what I am in the mood for.
Outfit: Top i made (teal coloured moss crepe material), some old black heels I forgot I had, a box pleated skirt with a jacquard pattern (£8 new look sale) and a black devore velvet kimono style jacket with flower (daisy) pattern that's only cost a fiver. woop!.
This outfit is simple with a pop of colour and gave me a helping hand as sometimes I lack a bit of shape.

Let me know what you think and remember be individual
